Ashneer Grover was born in Delhi, India on June 14, 1982. His father was a Chartered Accountant, while his mother was a teacher. Because his parents had decent occupations, the family was doing well. He graduated from top universities like IIT and IIM.
Ashneer Grover’s wife was Madhuri Jain Grover. She is a businesswoman who owns the furniture company Mauve and Brown in Delhi. Madhuri Grover, Ashneer Grover’s wife, was in charge of human resources, finance, and other internal operations at BharatPe until being revealed as one of the employees involved in financial fraud and removed by the Board. Ashneer Grover completed his schooling in Delhi. He then graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology with a B.Tech degree (IIT). During his time at IIT Delhi, he was selected for a student exchange program with the National Institute of Applied Sciences, also known as INSA Lyon. It is one of the largest and most respected engineering schools in Europe.
He arrived at INSA Lyon in 2002 on a €6,000 French Embassy scholarship. Grover graduated from IIT and went on to earn his MBA in Finance from the India Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. He did graduate from the IIM in 2006.
✅ Ashneer Grover – Initial Career
Through campus placements at IIM, Ashneer Grover was appointed as Vice President of Kotak Finance Banking. He has been with Kotak since 2006, or almost 7 years.
In mid-2013, Ashneer started working for American Express (AmEx), a credit card services firm that lasted for two years. He was named Director of Corporate Development at AmEx. After leaving American Express in 2015, Ashneer joined Grofers as Chief Financial Officer. The company’s new name is Blinkit.
Later that year, Ashneer was employed as the Head of New Business at PC Jeweller, a post he held for precisely a year. Ashneer Grover established his firm, BharatPe, in 2018.
✅ Founding BharatPe
After 12 years of experience in various professions, Ashneer Grover decided to start his organization. His experience as PC Jeweller’s head of business development and payments encouraged him to start his own payments company. BharatPe was founded in 2018 by Ashneer and Shashvat Nakrani.
They worked together to establish the fintech company from the bottom up and add several services to its primary business. BharatPe now supports UPI payments, transaction QR codes, POS machines for card payments, a 12% Club investing and lending app, and digital gold transactions.
On Shark Tank India, Ashneer said that while BharatPe was a $30 million firm, he received a $50 million offer from Google Pay but refused it. Grover subsequently remarked that he knew he was destined for greatness, which is something that all entrepreneurs, founders, and CEOs should strive for, and BharatPe is now worth more than $3 billion.

Ashneer Grover filed an emergency adjudication petition with the SIAC, but the Singapore International Arbitration Centre refused it. He was able to persuade everyone that the board’s probe was unethical. Grover also asked for a buyback before leaving the company, but BharatPe investors refused. Grover received the agenda for the company’s board meeting on February 28, 2022, which would also include the PWC report on Grover’s conduct and the measures taken against him, and it was on that day that Ashneer Grover resigned.
